Azam wins Rampur for 10th time, son Abdullah in Suar

Jailed Samajwadi Party leader Muhammad Azam Khan won the Rampur Sadar assembly seat for the 10th time after registering a convincing victory over his nearest rival and BJP candidate Akash Kumar Saxena by around 55,000 votes on Thursday.

Rampur: Jailed Samajwadi Party leader Muhammad Azam Khan won the Rampur Sadar assembly seat for the 10th time after registering a convincing victory over his nearest rival and BJP candidate Akash Kumar Saxena by around 55,000 votes on Thursday. Former four-time MLA and Congress candidate Nawab Kazim Ali Khan lost his deposit from the seat.
The SP veteran's son Abdullah Azam, who was recently released on bail from Sitapur jail, won from Suar by a margin of around 61,000 votes.

Abdullah secured 1,26,162 votes. He defeated NDA candidate Haider Ali Khan who got around 65,000 votes.
Abdullah Azam said: "We wholeheartedly welcome the public mandate. Today's victory was possible only due to their support and trust. Despite the allegations of buffalo theft against us, Suar voted for us."
Azam's close aide and sitting MLA from Chamrawa assembly seat Naseer Ahmed Khan also defeated BJP's Mohan Lodhi by around 34,000 votes. The SP secured victory on three out of five seats in Rampur district on Thursday.
